David Zinman’s enthusiasm for new music, new ideas and new ways of making music more accessible is always at the forefront of his mind. He has just finished his 19-year tenure as Music Director of the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, during which time he raised the level of the orchestra to a world-class level, made numerous highly-acclaimed recordings and undertook many very successful tours all over the world. He also introduced the ‘Tonhalle Late’ concerts in Zurich and continues to run conducting masterclasses with the orchestra each season.
During his long career as a conductor, he has worked with all of the leading orchestra throughout the world and has previously been Music Director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic and Baltimore Symphony orchestras and Principal Conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and was Artistic Director of the Aspen Music Festival, where he created the International Conducting Academy.
