David Zinman is one of the world’s finest, most respected conductors, whose passion for music, dedication to furthering careers of young musicians, and as an orchestra builder, makes ‘Music a Better World’.
Even in his 75th year, David Zinman’s enthusiasm for new music, new ideas and new ways of making music more accessible is always at the forefront of his mind. He has extended his contract with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich until 2014, where, since 1995 as conductor and music director, he has raised the standard of the orchestra to an international level. He has introduced new types of concerts, and made the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich one of the most enviable organizations to be part of.
During his long career as a conductor, rapidly rising to fame at a young age, he made a huge number of recordings with varied orchestras encompassing a wide repertoire. His recordings with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony and most recently the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra are but a few, but where he held the position as music director.
Until 2009 David Zinman was Artistic Director of the Aspen Music Festival, where he created the International Conducting Academy. He has inspired a number of innovative ideas in Zurich, including the famous ‘Tonhalle Late’ series, a Conductor’s course in Zurich in April, and most notably the famous recordings he has made for Sony which have received superb critical acclaim.
