David Zinman to be named ‘Conductor Emeritus’ of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich

David Zinman’s responds positively to the announcement of his successor in July 2014.

Honoured to be named ‘Conductor Emeritus’ of the Tonhalle Orchestra.

“I am excited and delighted that this talented young conductor, Lionel Bringuier, will be taking the helm of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, after I leave my post as Music Director at the end of July 2014. This is a chance for him to lead this inspiring orchestra into a new era. I am grateful and feel very honoured to be asked to continue my relationship with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich as Conductor Emeritus after I leave my post as Music Director in 2014. I am happy that I will continue to follow the development of this wonderful orchestra, as well as having the opportunity to keep in touch with my friends, and the loyal Zurich audience.”

Congratulations! I saw your Mahler 6 in Leipzig via Arte web site. Fantastic. Unfortunately I haven’t heard the Tonhalle Orchestra live yet, the closest geographically I got was Monteverdi’s Vespers in Luzern. It’s a bit of a long haul for me (I live in San Francisco) but I’m going to make to to Zürich next time!
